our mission site

Caraballo is a Haitian community located in the sugar cane fields on the north coast of the Dominican Republic. Migrant Haitian workers have come to cut sugarcane, one of the lowest paying jobs in the country. This community is truly the poorest of the poor in the DR. In this impoverished setting Kids Alive has begun The Park Care Center and is working in this community to meet the

needs of children who are growing up with very few opportunities. Currently, this ministry has 200 children enrolled in the day care program and are receiving Christ-centered holistic care.

Service team opportunities in Caraballo are mostly in construction as they continue to develop their care center facilities with the purpose of reaching more children. Even while working in construction you will have many opportunities to meet and interact with the children in the program, as well as visit some of their homes and families. The last day of your trip will be an opportunity to debrief at a local beach resort.

Santo Domingo’s Cathedral of Santa María la Menor is the oldest cathedral in the Americas. It was built in the 1500’s!

Arriving late for anything is considered normal in the Dom Rep. There’s usually a 45-minute wait between when a person is scheduled to arrive and when they actually do arrive.

Who are we serving?

The kids come from various backgrounds. Some of the kids have no families at all, some have lost a father or mother and the remaining parent is not able to care for the child. Some of the children have come from abusive home situations or poverty-stricken homes. Kids Alive believes that God has entrusted children to us and so we will provide them with the best possible care we can.

Vision

To see the people of the Dominican Republic become disciples of Jesus Christ.

Mission

To develop responsible Christian adults from children who were once in at-risk situations. This is done by providing quality Christian homes and/or relationship-based day programs that equip the children spiritually, educationally, physically, emotionally, and vocationally so that they might become responsible Christian adults who impact their country for Jesus Christ.

Service Team Program Overview

The service team program is designed to give teams from churches and organizations in North America and Europe an overseas experience that addresses the needs of children at risk and accomplishes the specific vision and mission of Kids Alive International. We encourage all service team members to come with a heart to serve the children, national workers, and missionaries on the field. Teams can help with the construction of the facilities for the children, including chapels, classrooms, and playgrounds. They can also lead educational programs and special activities for the children in the ministries, build relationships, encourage missionaries, and act as role models for the children.

Kids Alive Statement Of Responsibilty

During your stay with Kids Alive, we encourage you to pursue your personal relationship with Jesus Christ as your foremost goal. Second, we invite you to step into the life of a small group of children and develop a life-impacting relationship with them. Third, we ask that you listen to the global needs of the millions of children living in at-risk situations and consider what long-term role God might have for you working with these children. Fourth, we encourage you to act as servant to the other participants on your team, the national staff and missionaries, in order that your brief stay might serve as a long term encouragement to the work. Finally we ask that you be respectful of the local church and its customs that might be different from yours.
